These are generally just some observations that I hope will make you smile, at least. Participating job interviews is not a laughing matter, in particular when you are jobless while you are it. Yet, having landed the wish job for the instant, anybody can afford to recollect frustrating or downright strange situations and own reactions that have been probably weirder.

A lot has been explored and discussed “affect heuristic” and other biases that creep unbidden into the brains of however, most fair-minded interviewers. The interviewer’s presumptions and prejudices are often evident to you. Even though the clever interviewees can work those to their go for, the ordinary, already nerve-stricken interviewees could very well lose their cool.

Several scenarios too common in the ugly game of hiring –

Size issues

You aren’t interviewing for any team management position, especially not for any “Chief ” positions. But, the question is not about your team size, or reportees or anything more relevant to you. This is merely –

“So how many employees were there? inches

(You answer, cringing till the response, since this company is more than ten times its size, numberwise)

“Oh? There was a time when we had only that many. ” (Smiles in shame and disappointment; he will probably continue the interview for the form of it but cardiovascular system is unquestionably broken)

There is not much hope now regardless of how much expertise you have.

Just how is the total amount of employees in any organization a benchmark for the talent of your specific individual if team management is not the account being interviewed for?

The jingoist

Praising one’s company sky high is not too bad unless it is to intimidate the prospect into feeling worthless. Continuously putting down your recent employer is bad. Since a typical female, That stuff seriously the scam is in the build, which I cannot recreate here. Comments such as these –

“Yes, certainly, we were in that phase a few years ago… ”

“Oh we no longer do things here quite that way, you understand? ” (smiles)

You grin and endure because after all this can be a more successful company. Zero point arguing unless encouraged to.

Smart work – Work – whatever

“Tell me about your everyday activities, your deliverables”

A very fair question and you, animatedly and happily, make clear what you know to be very comprehensive, standards compliant processes that were followed at the previous company. You are on familiar turf.

Towards the end of it, he responses, “Oh, we don’t trouble with all of that here. No one writes or reads documents, sheer waste of successful time (smiles). Maybe a rough workflow sketch, which all” (shrugs modestly, oh yea poor fool you! )

Now I am very sure that had you airily commented that you and your team were super smart, telepathically so, and therefore got work done with minimum problems, he would have critically expounded the need for standards- compliance.

You only are not able to win.

Here are two gems from salary transactions, after you have lost hours on the testing and interviews at different rungs of the business.

The all-encompassing learning opportunity

“The learning opportunity that you will get here, you will not get anywhere else”

(Translation: “We are not ready to pay you as you deserve. So, although you have been in this domain for the keep going 10 years I need to convince you that YOU are going to benefit rather than we. “)

So generous!

Hand-holding forever and more..

“We begins you at xxx amount since you will need some hand-holding and training. After 5-6 a few months we will see. inches (That last part of the speech is very vague and trails off)

After a decade in the market, rather than a rise, if one accepts just 50%-60& of previous salary at every jump, then in another ten years you might be doing free service! Handholding required would be 100%!

The above are not deliberate ruse to judge the response and response, just placing down people for no reason except that they can merely because of their position. Ideally, you are so reduced to shambles that you accept whatever they give with tears of gratitude. The interviewer takes a pat on your back for the clever selecting tactics.

Let us see them as who they really are and realize that any organization that will bring them must surely not be really worth the trouble.

Let all of us go forward…
